The Benefits of Using Limestone
Limestone is a rock with a variety of uses. Most limestone is crushed and used as a construction material. Other uses include: road base, railroad ballast, concrete and cement when it’s fired in a kiln with crushed shale. Pure limestone is nearly white in color, but most of the limestone used for buildings is produced in a range of different finishes, such as cream, black, gold, brown, pink and red. Our lightweight StoneLite® panels can be produced from almost any limestone and are relatively easy to cut into intricate shapes and attach to an existing structure. When we did the natural stone facing for Otterson Hall at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), the limestone panels were enhanced with a custom “raked” finish, a chiseled appearance in which scored lines contrast with one another.

Limestone is a strong, dense stone with few pore spaces, which means it can withstand abrasion and freeze-thaw.
